News from Jane Houng
 

For each RDW retreat, Jane Houng funds a scholarship to support a "woman with a traumatic story to tell." We're honored to welcome Jess Rinker, the 2024 RDW Scholarship Recipient for the upcoming retreat. Jess Rinker is an award winning writer who has several books for young readers including picture book biographies and middle grade fiction. Titles include Gloria Takes a Stand, a biography of feminist icon Gloria Steinem, Send a Girl!: The True Story of How Women Joined the FDNY. Middle grade novels The Dare Sisters and The Dare Sisters: Shipwrecked!Out of Time: Lost on the Titanic, The Hike to Home and Monolith. She also writes under the name A. Silverthorn and is debuting a young adult novel, Searching for Sky, in May.

In addition to Jane's ongoing work with RDW and Becky's Button, she recently launched a podcast, Mending Lives, where she talks with people who are trying to make the world a safer place. Check out the first episode here.

Meet Azra, our newest team member!

Azra Rahim has a background in science and research. Azra’s writing for children centers on lived experiences. Azra is a 2023 Muslim Storyteller Crash Course participant, and a recent winner of Rebecca Dykes Writers support to focus on telling stories for kids and teens.
